Kernel panic via SLAB freelist ABA race
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
A race in the Linux 7.2 SLAB allocator allows local users to corrupt a slab list and trigger a kernel panic during concurrent allocations. __slab_try_return_freelist() trusts a successful cmpxchg after observing a NULL freelist, while __refill_objects_node() can reinsert the slab as another CPU removes it without holding n->list_lock. Concurrent local allocation activity is required; successful triggering corrupts list metadata and causes a fatal kernel panic, with no demonstrated confidentiality or integrity impact.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
