CVE-2026-97940Public exploit

Kernel crash via dangling IPv6 FIB walker

Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026

Use-after-free in the Linux IPv6 FIB walker allows local users to crash affected kernels by racing route iteration with route deletion. ipv6_route_iter_active misclassifies a still-linked root walker as unlinked, so seq stop skips fib6_walker_unlink and later route deletion accesses the freed walker. The demonstrated BPF iterator trigger requires root privileges and produces a kernel panic, while the procfs iterator has a narrower race window.
