Kernel crash via deferred trigger use-after-free
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux 7.1.6 through 7.2 allows local users to crash the kernel by removing a tracing instance with a deferred trigger. The enable_event cleanup worker dereferences trace_event_file after instance removal has already freed it, instead of retaining trace_event_call directly. Reaching the path requires local privileged access to configure event triggers and remove tracing instances; the bounded consequence is kernel interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
