Kernel out-of-bounds access via malformed UFS metadata
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Out-of-bounds access in Linux UFS allows local users with CAP_SYS_ADMIN to corrupt kernel memory by mounting a crafted image. ufs_read_cylinder() caches cg_cgx and rotor fields from on-disk cylinder groups without checking their group number or bounds, and allocation later uses them as array and bitmap indices. Exploitation requires a privileged UFS mount followed by an allocation, so the flaw does not cross an unprivileged security boundary.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
