Use-after-free via incomplete histogram trigger rollback
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux kernel 4.17 and later allows local users to access freed memory through a failing histogram trigger. When trace_event_trigger_enable_disable() fails, hist_trigger_enable() removes the trigger from file->triggers, so hist_unregister_trigger() cannot find it and cleanup frees data still referenced by named_triggers. Reachability requires local permission to write a histogram trigger in tracefs and an event-enable failure; the observed consequence is an invalid kernel read detected by KASAN.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
