Kernel use-after-free via unpinned family module
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux kernel 5.8 allows local users to dereference stale kernel memory through a resumed generic netlink policy dump. The dump context retains target-family operation and policy pointers without pinning that family's module, so later work accesses memory after unload. The dump must remain pending while the family is unregistered and its module is unloaded; a fault on the subsequent dereference interrupts the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
