Pre-authentication account takeover via shared cache keys
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Authentication bypass in Wakapi before 2.17.6 allows remote attackers to take over accounts through colliding user cache keys. GetUserById and GetUserByKey stored and read user objects under the same unprefixed identifier, so a user ID cached by one path could be accepted as an API key by the other. User caching must be enabled and the victim's ID must already be cached; successful exploitation grants access to the victim's account without credentials.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Activity data is delayed. The latest report is Sep 28, 2026.
