Administrator takeover via contact identity rebinding
Published Oct 3, 2026 · Updated Oct 3, 2026
Privilege escalation in Groundhogg 4.9 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to take over Administrator accounts via contact rebinding. The v3 create_contact endpoint passes an attacker-supplied user_id into Contacts_DB::add(), bypassing the ownership check enforced by Contacts_DB::update(). A Sales Representative can rebind a contact to an Administrator, then use the v4 email-test endpoint to generate and consume a one-time login link for that account.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
