Local privilege escalation via fragment-queue race
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Out-of-bounds memory access in Linux kernel 6.19 and affected stable releases allows local users to gain privileges through IPv6 fragments. During fqdir_pre_exit(), incomplete queues are flushed without first changing completion state, allowing in-flight fragments to reuse stale nhoffset metadata with a new skb in ip6_frag_reasm(). Exploitation requires local packet injection and unprivileged network namespaces, and successful heap corruption elevates privileges rather than exposing a remote service.
