Local kernel memory corruption via PIB update race
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
A double-free race in affected Linux kernel revisions allows local users to corrupt kernel memory through concurrent mac802154_hwsim PIB updates. The hwsim_update_pib() path reads, replaces, and schedules the prior phy->pib object for RCU freeing without serializing callers, so two threads can free the same object. The trigger requires local netlink operations with CAP_NET_ADMIN, obtainable in an enabled user namespace; failed exploitation can crash the kernel, while controlled heap reuse grants elevated execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
