Network-configuration stall via unbounded routing-table search
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Algorithmic-complexity denial of service in the Linux IPv4 FIB allows local users to stall network configuration via a table-0 rule. fib_empty_table() scans successive table IDs in a 256-bucket hash while holding RTNL, causing each probe to traverse progressively longer chains. Exploitation requires CAP_NET_ADMIN and a densely populated table-ID space; the resulting delay blocks other RTNL-protected networking operations.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
