Kernel use-after-free via uncanceled alarm work
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux gpio-fan driver allows attackers to access freed kernel objects during device unbind after an alarm. The interrupt handler can queue fan_data->alarm_work without cancellation, so fan_alarm_notify dereferences fan_data and its hwmon device after devres frees both. The race requires a pending alarm work item while an administrator unbinds a GPIO fan device; the published record specifies no further impact.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
