Kernel over-read via truncated SMB1 response
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in the Linux CIFS client allows remote attackers to trigger a kernel over-read via a truncated SMB1 READ response. CIFSSMBRead() dereferences DataLengthHigh, DataLength, and DataOffset before confirming rsp_iov.iov_len can hold the full READ_RSP header. Reachability requires an explicit vers=1.0 mount because SMB1 is not negotiated by default; depending on mapped memory, the over-read exposes adjacent kernel data or triggers a kernel oops.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
