Ownership spoofing via unchecked SMB SID remapping
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Improper ownership mapping in the Linux SMB client before 7.2.7 allows remote attackers to dictate local file ownership metadata. Three POSIX and ACL conversion paths call sid_to_id() without honoring forced UID or GID mount flags, replacing configured identifiers with server-supplied mappings. Exposure requires an administrator to mount an attacker-controlled SMB share with forceuid or forcegid; the flaw falsifies client-side ownership metadata rather than changing server-side ownership.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
