Kernel stack disclosure via uninitialized SID mapping
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Information disclosure in the SMB client in Linux before 7.2.7 allows attackers to expose kernel stack data via malformed directory entries. cifs_posix_to_fattr() ignores a posix_info_parse() failure, then sends uninitialized owner and group bytes through sid_to_id() and request_key(). The path requires a client to enumerate a POSIX SMB share from an untrusted server; disclosed bytes reach the local userspace idmap daemon.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
