CVE-2026-97546

Repair hang via zero-length XFS directory entries

Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026

Denial of service in Linux 6.10 XFS online directory repair allows attackers to hang a repair via malformed directory metadata. xrep_dir_recover_data advances its scan offset by an unused entry's claimed length, so a zero length leaves the cursor unchanged and repeats the loop indefinitely. Reachability requires an XFS filesystem containing the malformed entry and invocation of online directory repair; the bounded consequence is a repair-path hang.
