Locked-buffer leak during XFS btree loading
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
An XFS locked-buffer leak in Linux 6.8 allows attackers to lose a locked kernel buffer through unspecified vectors. In xfs_btree_bload_prep_block, an I/O error from xfs_btree_bload_drop_buf returns without releasing the newly obtained new_bp buffer. Reachability requires a write failure while a staged XFS btree is being bulk-loaded; no data disclosure or code execution is reported.
