Service interruption via F2FS free-section miscount
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Denial of service in Linux 5.8 and affected git revisions allows local users to disrupt F2FS resizing under low-space conditions. free_segment_range reduces MAIN_SECS but leaves already-free truncated sections in free_sections, overstating allocatable space during garbage collection. Reaching the defect requires privileged resizing of an F2FS filesystem with free sections in the truncated range; the result is allocation failure or an assertion.
