CVE-2026-97521Public exploitHinoki check available

Privileged GFS2 mount failure via sleeping lookup

Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026

Improper locking in Linux 6.12 before 6.12.111 and 6.18 before 6.18.53 allows local users to interrupt a GFS2 mount. During duplicate quota-change scanning, gfs2_quota_init() calls gfs2_qd_search_bucket(), whose lockref_get_not_dead() operation can sleep while the quota hash bucket bitlock is held on PREEMPT_RT. Triggering the invalid-context failure requires an affected PREEMPT_RT kernel, GFS2 support, permission to mount, and duplicate quota-change identifiers in a crafted or corrupt filesystem image.
