Authenticated server crash via nested strict-winding polygon
Published Jun 9, 2026 · Updated Jun 9, 2026
Denial of service in affected MongoDB Server 7.0, 8.0, 8.2, and 8.3 releases allows remote authenticated users to crash mongod. During 2dsphere index key generation, the strict-winding rejection guard fails to inspect Polygon members nested in a GeoJSON GeometryCollection, so the unsafe indexing path dereferences a null pointer. The user must be authorized to issue the crafted geospatial query; the documented consequence is a server crash without reported data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=7.0.0 <7.0.35
- Affected versionversion=8.0.0 <8.0.24
