Kernel memory exhaustion via unreleased Thunderbolt requests
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Memory leakage in Linux 6.12 before 6.12.111 and 6.18 before 6.18.53 allows context-dependent attackers to exhaust kernel memory. In __tb_xdomain_response(), a failed tb_cfg_request() returns without invoking the cleanup callback, leaving the allocated request reference unreleased. The error path is reached when request setup fails, including after the control channel shuts down; each failure leaks memory, so repeated failures are required for a service interrupt.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
