CVE-2026-97486Hinoki check available

System crash via unchecked HPFS block-size failure

Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026

Kernel denial of service in Linux 6.12 before 6.12.111 and 6.18 before 6.18.53 allows local users to crash the system by mounting HPFS. The HPFS hpfs_fill_super() path ignores sb_set_blocksize() failure and continues into __bread_gfp(), where folio_set_bh() triggers a BUG_ON because the block size exceeds PAGE_SIZE. Reaching the failure requires mount privileges, HPFS support, and a block device whose logical sector size prevents the requested 512-byte block size.
