Heap over-read via undersized ACPI identifiers
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
An out-of-bounds read in Linux 6.12 before 6.12.111 and 6.18 before 6.18.53 allows local users to trigger a heap over-read via malformed AML. The acpi_ex_load_table_op() path passes undersized OEM ID or Table ID strings to acpi_tb_find_table(), which copies fixed 6-byte and 8-byte fields beyond their allocations. Reaching the kernel path requires root-level dynamic ACPI table loading or malicious system firmware, limiting exposure to privileged local or pre-boot inputs.
