Pre-authentication crash via recursive BSON validation
Published Jun 9, 2026 · Updated Jun 9, 2026
Uncontrolled recursion in MongoDB Server allows remote attackers to crash the mongod process with a crafted BSON message. The BSON validator permits mutual recursion between nested-binary validation functions because each re-entry resets internal depth tracking. No authentication or user interaction is required; affected releases are 7.0.0 through 7.0.34, 8.0.0 through 8.0.23, 8.2.0 through 8.2.9, and 8.3.0 through 8.3.2, and successful exploitation interrupts database service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=7.0.0 <7.0.35
- Affected versionversion=8.0.0 <8.0.24
- Affected versionversion=8.2.0 <8.2.10
