CVE-2026-97381Network attack vector

Unauthorized update installation via failed origin validation

Published Oct 13, 2026 · Updated Oct 13, 2026

Origin bypass in Legacy Update 1.12.0 through 1.13.1 ActiveX allows remote attackers to install updates via malicious webpages. CLegacyUpdateCtrl::IsPermitted returns S_OK after reading a hostname outside the allowlist because the rejection path never sets E_ACCESSDENIED. Exploitation requires a visit in Internet Explorer and is constrained by browser and account privileges; exposed operations reveal system and update information, display dialogs, or restart the computer when updates are pending, while default update installation accepts only Microsoft-signed updates.
