Password reset via incorrect GRANT PROXY authorization
Published Oct 16, 2026 · Updated Oct 16, 2026
Authorization failure in MariaDB Server allows remote authenticated users to reset other accounts' passwords via GRANT PROXY. An IDENTIFIED clause containing an empty password is treated as absent authentication, causing the statement to check the wrong grantor privileges. A low-privileged database account and knowledge of a target account name are sufficient to replace that account's password, including an administrator's.
