Unauthenticated stored XSS via unescaped file_list values
Published Oct 2, 2026 · Updated Oct 2, 2026
Stored XSS in Justin Sternberg CMB2 2.13.0 and earlier lets remote attackers inject scripts into WordPress pages through file_list fields. The file_list field stores submitted attachment URLs and renders them without adequate sanitization or escaping, so injected script executes when an affected page is viewed. Exploitation requires an integrating plugin or theme to expose the field in a public front-end form or a user meta box; CMB2 exposes no such field by default.
