Cross-project volume disclosure via omitted source type
Published Sep 28, 2026 · Updated Sep 28, 2026
Authorization bypass in Canonical LXD 5.0.0 and later allows remote authenticated users to read custom volumes in other projects. The custom-volume creation endpoint copies a caller-selected source volume when source.type is omitted, but applies the source-volume access check only when that type is explicitly set to copy. Exploitation requires permission to create custom volumes in a project and a crafted API request; copied contents, snapshots, and configuration become readable.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=5.0.0 <5.0.10
- Affected versionversion=5.21.0 <5.21.8
