Code execution via unchecked preset vector indices
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in GIMP on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 through 10 allows attackers to execute code via a crafted preset file. The GIMPressionist plug-in fails to validate vector indices before using them to write into fixed-size arrays, allowing preset data to corrupt adjacent memory. Exploitation requires a user to load the malicious preset; the resulting memory corruption can crash GIMP or execute code in that user's context.
