Reflected XSS via unescaped debug explanation output
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Reflected XSS in Wikimedia Foundation CirrusSearch 1.46.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute script via debug explain output. The search debug path renders attacker-controlled explanation content from a cirrusExplain request without neutralizing it for HTML output. A victim must follow a crafted search URL; successful exploitation runs script in the victim's MediaWiki origin and can expose or alter data available to that browser session.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
