Host root code execution via CUSE device passthrough
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Improper resource exposure in Google gVisor before 573a9e73cf844f allows local users to execute code as root on Linux hosts. The gofer passes a /dev/cuse character device from a container image to the host, where unrestricted CUSE ioctl handling lets the sandbox register a host device and overwrite root udev helper memory. Exploitation requires CUSE to be enabled and privileges to deploy a crafted container image; success crosses the sandbox boundary with host-root execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

CVSS describes severity. EPSS estimates exploitation probability.
Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Activity data is delayed. The latest report is Sep 28, 2026.
