Unauthorized segment registration via unchecked MountSegment requests
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Improper access control in Mooncake 0.3.14-rc1 and earlier allows remote attackers to register arbitrary segments through MountSegment requests. ScopedSegmentAccess::MountSegment accepts client-supplied identifiers, names, addresses, sizes, and endpoints and inserts them into allocator and ownership maps without an authorization check. Access to the master RPC endpoint is required; successful requests alter the master's segment registry and subsequent allocation state.
