Code execution via unescaped database name interpolation

Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026

Code injection in MongoDB Compass 1.44.0 through 1.49.11 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript via a database name. The Open MongoDB shell action interpolates the selected server-supplied database name into mongosh's initial input without escaping it. Exploitation requires database-creation privileges on a connected server and a Compass user to open the shell from that database's view, after which the injected JavaScript runs with the Compass process's privileges.
