Local socket connection via misclassified KMS endpoint
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
SSRF in PyMongo 3.9.0 through 4.18.1 allows remote authenticated users to force local Unix socket connections through KMS metadata. Client-side field level encryption misclassifies a KMS endpoint ending in .sock as a local socket path and starts a TLS handshake to it. Exploitation requires write access to stored encryption key metadata; transmitted data is limited to the TLS handshake, preventing attacker-chosen payloads.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
