Path traversal via unsanitized avatar username
Published Sep 23, 2026 · Updated Sep 23, 2026
Path traversal in spring-boot-forum at commit 538eecc3 allows remote attackers to write uploaded avatar data outside its intended directory. NewUserFormValidator.validate checks only username length and uniqueness, allowing path separators to reach avatar-storage path construction. Exploitation requires a crafted 3-to-10-character account name and access to the avatar-upload workflow; successful use writes attacker-supplied data beyond the intended avatar directory.
