Directory replacement via unvalidated dependency application names

Published Oct 12, 2026 · Updated Oct 12, 2026

Path traversal in Six Colors AB Hex before 2.5.2 allows remote attackers to replace directories via crafted dependency metadata. Hex.RemoteConverger.deps/2 and Hex.Mix.to_lock/1 accept registry app labels without validation, causing Hex.SCM.update/1 to delete and unpack files into paths outside deps. Exploitation requires fetching a direct or transitive malicious dependency with mix deps.get or mix deps.update, occurs before compilation, and affects directories writable by the fetching account.
