Plug-in crash via final-pixel look-ahead
Published Sep 23, 2026 · Updated Sep 23, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in GIMP's DDS loader on Red Hat Enterprise Linux allows local users to crash the plug-in via a crafted image. The file-dds plug-in unconditionally reads one byte beyond the pixel buffer after decoding the final pixel of an uncompressed DDS image. Exploitation requires a user to open the image, and the demonstrated consequence is a plug-in crash without reported disclosure or code execution.
