Heap disclosure via undersized TIM row buffer
Published Sep 23, 2026 · Updated Sep 23, 2026
Out-of-bounds heap read in GIMP's TIM loader on Red Hat Enterprise Linux allows attackers to expose heap data or crash the plug-in. The file-tim plug-in allocates a row buffer for 4bpp data, then copies rows using the larger RGBA stride after layer promotion. Exploitation requires a user to open a crafted TIM image; the resulting decoded image can contain adjacent heap data, or the plug-in can crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
