Analyzer crash via unchecked DCT2000 payload length
Published Sep 29, 2026 · Updated Sep 29, 2026
Out-of-bounds memory access in Wireshark 4.4.0 through 4.4.18 and 4.6.0 through 4.6.8 allows attackers to crash the analyzer via DCT2000 input. The NR-UP dissector derives a length from untrusted comment text, then uses that unclamped length to pad and expose a 200-byte static buffer. Opening a crafted DCT2000 capture triggers the path; the reported consequence is a process crash, while the issue also demonstrates adjacent-memory reads.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=4.4.0 <4.4.19
