Privileged code execution via mailbox-driven firmware storage overflow
Published Oct 12, 2026 · Updated Oct 12, 2026
Buffer overflow in IBM PowerVM Hypervisor firmware allows local users to execute host runtime code via crafted mailbox messages. In FW1060.00 through FW1060.81, the service processor mailbox interface processes attacker-controlled messages that overflow host firmware runtime attribute storage. Exploitation requires authenticated service-level access to the FSP and grants control over managed-system memory and hardware interfaces.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
