Denial of service via unchecked GRAFT topic retention
Published Oct 16, 2026 · Updated Oct 16, 2026
Memory exhaustion in rust-libp2p Gossipsub before 0.49.5 allows remote attackers to interrupt service via crafted GRAFT messages. The GRAFT handler inserts untrusted topic hashes into connected_peer.topics without checking prior subscriptions, retaining new entries across messages. Exploitation requires an unauthenticated connection to a Gossipsub listener; cumulative growth bypasses subscription filters and message-size limits, exhausting process memory without a disclosed specific termination mode.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
