Privilege escalation via checkpoint security-context bypass
Published Oct 12, 2026 · Updated Oct 12, 2026
Privilege escalation in containerd's CRI CreateContainer allows local users to run as root via crafted checkpoint data. CRIU restores credentials, capabilities, no_new_privs, and seccomp state from the checkpoint instead of enforcing the destination ContainerConfig. Exploitation requires container creation access and Linux CRI checkpoint restore; processes gain full capabilities without enforced seccomp filters while CRI status reports the requested restrictions.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
