Arbitrary code execution via obfuscated Python dropper
Published Sep 22, 2026 · Updated Sep 22, 2026
Malicious code in Crypt::SelfCertificate 1.01 through 1.05 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code as the invoking user. generate_certificate runs a Python program stored as a certificate sample; the program decodes a hardcoded Base64 HTTP URL, fetches its response, and executes the response body directly. The payload is not triggered by installation hooks or tests; an application must invoke certificate generation, after which the downloaded code inherits that application's privileges without leaving a separate script.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
