Memory corruption via overflowing allocation size
Published Sep 22, 2026 · Updated Sep 22, 2026
Integer overflow in libstdc++ in Red Hat Hardened Images allows attackers to corrupt memory through oversized C++ allocations. The C++ new allocation path performs size arithmetic that wraps for a sufficiently large request, allocates an undersized buffer, and leaves subsequent access outside that allocation. Exploitation requires an application to pass an attacker-influenced oversized request into the affected path, resulting in memory corruption or a crash.
