Application hang via repeated CID subroutine allocations
Published Oct 2, 2026 · Updated Oct 2, 2026
Denial of service in FreeType's CID font loader allows remote attackers to hang or terminate applications through crafted CID-keyed fonts. The cid_read_subrs path allocates and decrypts subroutine data across font dictionaries, allowing a crafted font to drive excessive memory and CPU consumption. Exploitation requires an application or service to process attacker-supplied content containing the font; the reported consequence is limited to availability.
