Packet-analysis crash via MBIM character-count wrap
Published Sep 29, 2026 · Updated Sep 29, 2026
MBIM dissector denial of service in Wireshark 4.4.0 through 4.4.18 and 4.6.0 through 4.6.8 allows attackers to crash packet analysis. The MBIM SMS decoder accepts an inconsistent encoded-byte count and character count; a 32-bit packed-length calculation wraps before bounds checking, while decoding retains the untrusted character count. A crafted capture file triggers the demonstrated crash when detailed packet-tree analysis is requested; the vendor also identifies malformed live packets as a possible route.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
