Crash via SCTP fragment-length integer overflow
Published Sep 29, 2026 · Updated Sep 29, 2026
Heap buffer overflow in Wireshark 4.4.0 through 4.4.18 and 4.6.0 through 4.6.8 allows remote attackers to crash packet analysis. The SCTP fragment_reassembly() routine sums DATA chunk lengths in a 32-bit value, then allocates a buffer from the wrapped total before copying the fragment data. A target must inspect attacker-supplied SCTP traffic or open a crafted capture; the demonstrated case requires roughly 4 GB of fragment data and interrupts the Wireshark process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
