Sharkd worker crash via RTP resampler overflow
Published Sep 29, 2026 · Updated Sep 29, 2026
Heap overflow in Wireshark Sharkd 4.4.0 through 4.4.18 and 4.6.0 through 4.6.8 allows attackers to crash a worker via an RTP capture. Sharkd's RTP download path calculates the Speex output-buffer byte count in narrow arithmetic; a crafted clock-rate change wraps the size check, leaving an undersized heap buffer for the resampler to write into. The worker crashes only after Sharkd reads the crafted capture and an RTP audio download is requested; code execution and data disclosure have not been demonstrated.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
