NFC access bypass via opaque-origin permission fallback

Published Sep 29, 2026 · Updated Sep 29, 2026

Missing authorization in NFC in Google Chrome before 154.0.8037.57 allows remote attackers with a compromised renderer to bypass NFC access controls. The WebNFC host accepts a request from an opaque-origin document, while permission evaluation falls back to the page's visible URL instead of rejecting that origin. The documented path requires an existing NFC permission grant for the substituted origin and an NFC tag in proximity; Chromium identifies the affected handler as mobile-only.
