Application crash via subtitle bounding-box integer overflow
Published Oct 13, 2026 · Updated Oct 13, 2026
Integer overflow in libass 0.17.5 allows remote attackers to crash subtitle-rendering applications via extreme numeric ASS input. The ass_outline_construct() function in libass/ass_render.c subtracts attacker-influenced bounding-box extrema using signed 32-bit arithmetic that overflows. Applications must render the supplied subtitles; the demonstrated SIGILL crash requires nonrecovering UBSan instrumentation, while ordinary builds produce wrapped coordinates and sizes rather than a demonstrated crash.
